Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken the initiative of, the Banking Ombudsman to redress the complaints related to banking services. Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2021 takes cases of the banking and services regulated under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, Banking Regulation Act, 1949, and Payments and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
RBI has provided an integrated Banking Ombudsman for the consumers to register complaints against the issues and services of Commercial banks, NBFC, cooperative banks, Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI), and other banking & non-banking service companies.

Banking Ombudsman of RBI
Integrated Banking Ombudsman was started under the scheme of integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2022 by RBI. RBI has established the Office of Ombudsman to take complaints about banking services, NBFC, and payment transactions & financial services.
The banking Ombudsman of RBI has two officials that take the cases, hear and order the final decision against the complaint. The Ombudsman and Deputy Ombudsman are the higher official members of the office.
The complaints can be lodged to the Ombudsman for these financial services to get redressal of the money-related issues.

Consumer Cases on Banking
- Financial Transactions: Banks’ delays in returning deposits, settlement issues with cheques, complex loan processes, disputes over money handling (liens), and uncertainties regarding transaction assurances (bank guarantees) in banking/finances.
- Banking Services: Problems with locker safety and accessibility, closing accounts or getting chequebooks, or disagreements over service charges and understanding account statements.
